September sweet September

This year is flying by and it's hard to believe that we are almost halfway through September. I have been waiting for September to get here....because this month is so packed full of fun things I enjoy....First there was the Calligraphy Guild secret pal reveal...getting to find out who had been sending me wonderful goodies all summer long! Then CKC in San Marcos, Tx this weekend, then heading to Warrenton & Round Top, TX for the antiques week....I get giddy just thinking about it! Then at the end of the month I am heading to Waxahachie, Tx with a couple of my friends for the Artistic Journey retreat. So between all these events...getting ready for a new class series I will start teaching next month....and being addicted to Pinterest....I am kinda busy!

Thanks for stopping by! I so appreciate your comments!

It was meant to be...

On my last road trip I bought an old quilt...I had actually seen it in the antique mall on a previous trip and looked at...but didn't buy it....but I kept thinking about it...wishing I had bought it! So when it was still there the next time around....I felt it was meant to be! It was worn...it had tears and holes in it....but I loved the colors of all the vintage fabrics. I decided to cut it up...first I made a stencil of a heart, then placed the stencil on the quilt so I could decide where to cut out my hearts. I blanket stitched around the edges, then embellished it with a bit of lace and a flower made from a sweater I felted. A lot of recycling going on here!

Hope you can see how I let some of the papers inspire my color choices, when it came to embellishing....at first I didn't know what to do with little quilted yellow heart. The finished size of the card is 5 1/2 X 4 1/4 (regular A2 card size) I have many more quilted hearts of all colors and can't wait to make them into something!

Thanks for stopping by...I would love to hear what you think!!!

Paper Cowgirl Retreat was Awesome!

I don't know how to begin to tell you how wonderful my experience at Paper Cowgirl was! I wanted to go last year, but didn't because I couldn't find anyone to go with me, and I was too chicken to go by myself! But this year...I decided to go "no matter what"! I still couldn't find anyone to go with me, so I went alone....but I made soooo many new friends once I got there!
I even found a terrific room-mate on the yahoo group....thanks Cathi!

The first night was a meet & greet at the Doves nest and we had a fabulous time exchanging little charms, or flair to be added to our name badges. This amazing dress, made out of paper and coffee filters, by Ann-Denise Anderson was a display!

Our key note speaker was Lisa M. Pace....I was so excited because I have had her book for about a year and I LOVE it! She autographed it and was soooo sweeet!

Friday night we all had dinner at a Mexican food restaurant and it was happy hour! Then shopping in downtown Waxahachie...I found some great stuff at the antiques stores !

I only took 2 classes and sort of wish I had taken more now, but I didn't want to get overwhelmed....since it was my first time! My first class was "Encaustic Memories" by Lisa McIlvain and I loved it! Go check out her Paper Cowgirl pictures!!!

My second class was "Dolled up Dress Forms" by Karla Nathan, (you really need to see her Paper Cowgirl pictures too) I can't tell you how much I loved this class! She has a tutorial you can purchase if you would like to learn to make these cuties!

The last night was the famous vendor fair....and I was too buy shopping to take pictures, but take my word for it...it was fantastic!!!

I can't wait to go again next year!

Paper Cowgirl teacher gifts

Before I went to Paper Cowgirl, I made this little book and the one with the brown flower (from this post) for teacher gifts. I took a class from Lisa Mcilvain who I gave the brown flower book, and I took a class from Karla Nathan who I gave this little book to. Both of the ladies used them for autograph books for everyone in the class to sign...what a great idea!

I was so excited to meet both of the two ladies because I have been following their blogs for a long time and love all the creative things they do!!! And both classes were AMAZING!

A couple days after coming home from Paper Cowgirl I got sick...and I mean bad! I am still recovering, and hope to feel good enough to do another post of Paper Cowgirl soon!

Thanks for stopping by!!

Follow your heart...

I love it when a project just comes together...and the finished product is even better than I had imagined! I love this little stamp "follow your heart" I just bought it a few weeks ago, an this is the first time I have used it. It's by Inkadinkado...and when I tried to find a link where you could buy it if you love it too...the only place I could find it was on e-bay.

This is a small paper bag that I up-cycled into a gift bag. The papers are sewn together, then glued to the front of the bag. The flower is made from polymer clay.
I am following my heart by going to the Paper Cowgirl art retreat....which is less than a week away! I would love to know....how are you following your heart?
Thanks for stopping by....

I think my desk exploded!!!

I have so many projects that I am working on right now....I can't find anything on my desk! Ya know....when your work desk gets overloaded...and looks like a bomb went off! Welcome to my world!

I am getting ready to go to "The Paper Cowgirl" retreat (only a few weeks from now) and I wanted to make a few gifts to take with me, plus I signed up for 1 swap (altered cigar box)

I am also in the San Antonio Calligraphy Guild....and I signed up for the secret pal program for the summer...so I am making things for my secret pal in hopes she will like them...secretly I am feeling intimidated!!!! And I can't show pictures of what I am making for her...because if she looks at my blog...it won't be a secret anymore!

I have also been working with Susan at "Scrapbooks & More" and have put a few items for sale in her store-Vintage sheet music, handmade flowers, vintage lace, hand dyed ribbon....etc.

And I am working on ideas for up-coming classes....so please understand that is why I haven't posted in a while... Life gets busy...and time flys by!

Thanks for stopping by...I know all of yall are busy too...so I appreciate the time you take to stop by my little blog!

A weekend of fabulous friends, family and finds!

I had a Fabulous weekend filled with friends, family and finds! First I went to my mama's where we hit some garage sales, and visited my Grandmother. Then I headed to Winnie & Tulula's for Ki Nassaur's visit. How sweet Ki is! It was great to meet her! Here I am with my friend Lezlee and Ki! I got to spend some time with some of the nicest people in Texas like Debbie and Danny of Talking Trash and Jodi of Gresham Barn Sale

Margo was there snapping pictures....I snapped one of one of her necklaces!

And a few random shots from around the store....sooo much cool stuff! Then the "Girls gone Junkin" arrived! Everyone was so sweet to give me great advice for my first trip to Canton...which was bright and early the next morning.

And as overwhelming as Canton is...I did manage to find the "Girls gone Junkin" booth which was Divine!

I came back loaded with finds! I really did get some great bargains! I just wish it wasn't so far away...so I could do it more often!

I hope you enjoyed your weekend as much as I did mine!
